About the event

Whether you're new to mycology or have been foraging for years and want to start growing your own mushrooms, this class is for you! This is the first class in a three part series for the beginning mushroom grower. We recommend this class for anyone looking to add mushrooms to their garden or landscape.

We will gather at Olympic Roots Farm to learn some basics about mycelium  and learn how to grow mushroom beds at home. Taught by mushroom enthusiast and owner of the Morel Compass, Lily Athair.

After a brief introduction to mycology, we will split into groups for some hands on experience. We will be innoculating established wood chip beds with live wine cap spawn, and innoculating straw with oyster mushrooms.

Each participant will leave with their own mushroom spawn and the experience and knowledge to start growing mushrooms on their own.

This class is held outside, so dress appropriately for inclement weather. No tools are needed, but you may want to bring gardening gloves. Parking is limited, so please carpool or cycle if you're able. Children are encouraged to attend with their parents at no additional cost, but please leave pets at home.

You may purchase your tickets online or pay cash/check in person the day of the event. We have a limited number of scholarships available for those who cannot afford the cost, just use the code MUSHROOMMAGIC1 at checkout for free entry- no questions asked. If you have the means and would like to help offset the cost of scholarships for others, please reach out via email and we will accept whatever donation works for you.
